Handmade Patchwork Quilt - Spring Blooms

This luxuriously soft heirloom quilt is completely hand stitched by myself at home. Inspired by the works of iconic British textile designer William Morris, the centre is a unique patchwork layout of Morris inspired prints in a complimentary colour palette. I created a border in cream cotton to enhance the patchwork centre and add a touch of modernity. Emphasis is on tactility and texture in this quilt, with a machine-stitched geometric pattern border, and hand-stitched running stitches in a yellow, grey and cornflower thread.

Sandwiched in the centre is a double layer of premium cotton batting. It makes this the thickest quilt option out of my quilts, and the most squishy. The beauty of cotton batting is that it gets better with age and loosens up after multiple snuggles. Cotton batting is natural and sustainable, super soft and hypoallergenic.

This quilt is deeply rooted in my British heritage, both in fabrics and quilting techniques. It makes a beautiful heirloom to pass down through the generations.

SUSTAINABILITY & TRANSPARENCY

I believe that transparency plays an important role in modern, sustainable manufacturing.

  • It took around 18 hours to make this quilt by hand.

  • There is no branded packaging to reduce waste and when shipping internationally I will be using recyclable mailers.

  • This quilt is made from 100% surplus fabric I sourced from Our Social fabric.

  • Our Social Fabric is Vancouver's only non-profit textile recycling initiative. They receive donations of textiles, fabric and sewing related supplies from the film industry, theatre, manufacturing, estate closures together with home sewers and artists. Their team of volunteers sort through the donations and offer them back to the community.

By purchasing this quilt you are making a contribution to reducing waste going into landfill.

When washing keep this in mind, wash as little as possible. Your quilt will thank you for not over washing.

  • Using a mild detergent - machine wash on gentle cycle with cold water or up to 30 degrees. Hand washing is even better

  • Air dry flat out of direct sunshine or dry in dryer on air dry or low heat setting. Low to not heat is very important. If in doubt, just air dry. Less energy used this way too
